The Hammersmith Group is a strategy consulting firm that advises developers of historic, luxury, and sustainable properties. The firm also consults to city leaders on reviving their historic downtowns. The firm's strategy is based on the belief that historic preservation, open space, and heritage assets can be powerful catalysts for economic development, and that places with a strong sense of identity can command premium pricing.

The Hammersmith Group is a leader in marketing new developments. Our approach is markedly different from the conventional marketing approach in that we align individual elements (architectural design, marketing, press, sales experience, and delivery of the final units) for maximum strategic effect.

The firm and its client projects have appeared in the Associated Press, BBC, Businessweek, CNBC, CNN/Money, Dwell, Entrepreneur, Forbes, Fortune, International Herald-Tribune, Los Angeles Times, MSNBC, Newsweek, NPR, Oprah, People, USA Today, US News & World Report, and the Wall Street Journal.

Constantine A. Valhouli has served as a principal of The Hammersmith Group since 2004, where he leads both client engagements and research on the intersection of real estate and technology. His research has explored the Internet of Things, networked objects, smart devices and intelligent buildings, and spatial search.

His consulting has focused on the costs and benefits of energy-efficiency investments, as well as development and disposition strategies for historic or significant properties. His clients have included the largest green projects in New England, one of the oldest towns in America, the largest private landholders in the first Urban National Park, and the governor of Massachusetts.

He has written extensively about the intersection of real estate and technology, including a series of white papers on the Internet of Things. His work has appeared in several books, including Leadership Lessons from the Civil War; in business journals such as Developer and Urban Land; and on the op-ed pages of Dwell, Fast Company, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, and other publications.

Constantine has spoken at industry events and at the State Department, and he has guest lectured at Columbia University, MIT, and New York University. His white paper “Valuing green buildings” is on the curriculum at Stanford University, and has been cited in Deloitte’s 2009 Sustainable Enterprise Report.

He previously served as the Director of Strategy for a sustainable real estate development company. His career began in equity research of Morgan Stanley.

He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, an MA in interactive technology from Georgetown University’s Communications, Culture, & Technology Program, and a BA from Georgetown. He is a Charles G. Koch Fellow in economics and public policy, and holds a Peter Agris Media Fellowship.

On the side, he directed or produced three award-winning documentary films which have been featured in Glamour, Time Out, New York magazine, New York Times, Page Six, Oprah, and People.
